Go On Have A Go
It’s been said well over a thousand times!
Life is too short
Life is what you make it
You only get one life
Apologies to my buddhist readers on the last one, but you get what I’m saying.
We’re here not to have fear.
No way dude. Life is to be enjoyed. And embraced. And appreciated. And gotten on with! It’s a wonderful thing. Whether you are seven or seventy. A single mum or retired guy. Living in Belgium or Barbados.
The past is passed
Hell look! Gonna be honest with you here. The past is over. Gone. Kaput. Behind you now. Whatever happened there; good, bad, awful, stunning. Keep it there. Look ahead. To the future. You can’t change the past but you can let it change you. Don’t do that. Wipe the slate clean because life really is too short. For staying stuck, or lonely, or angry, or any one of a hundred other things that stop you moving on and having a real blast. Even great moments that you don’t want to release or forget. I get you. Understand completely. But, there’s always sun on the horizon….
Better times call and they promise much. You wanna join us there? The fun folk
Got a wish?
What’s your wish? What would you love to pursue or do? What’s always on your mind? What’s never gone away even if it’s being saved for a rainy day? That wish isn’t a fairytale dream that requires a wave of a magic wand. A wish means something you have a longing or desire for or a real life aspiration. It’s not the stuff of legend or fantasy that rarely comes about. Wishes are wants waiting to be awakened, tried and attempted. Simple, everyday personal ambitions or objectives. Nothing over grand (though the odd one is OK too) or world shattering. You don’t have to go to the moon or discover a long lost tribe. No way!
Wishes can be:
To learn a musical instrument or sing in a choir
Speak fluent French and live in the Dordogne
Buy a small boat and sail around Europe
Write a book, song or play
Race classic cars or breed buffaloes
Paint angels, fairies or spirit guides in vivid colour
So, let me ask you again. What’s your wish? Declare it now. Name it. Accept it. Dust it off and bring it to life. Be honest with yourself. Unlock it and make it all shiny and new. Maybe your true calling is calling?
Have a go
In reality nothing is stopping you. Bar your long list of feeble excuses which we will bin if that’s alright with you? Good. Because time and tide don’t wait. As world ice hockey star, Wayne Gretzky said,
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
It’s time to get out of the stands and onto the pitch. Leave the back of the queue and go to the front. Stop being one of the cooks spoiling the broth. No longer a has-been but a will-be. Or prevented from happy bunny status. A can-do candidate awaits. Remember that wish? Well….
Go on, give it a go!
What’s there to gain not to lose?
How long have you waited?
How brilliant is it going to be? How fabulous to do?
So, what’s it going to be? When are you going to start?
Life is ticking away. It’s too short and getting shorter. You get one life so now is the time to follow your North Star. Answer a long held ambition. Put the ‘I’ in passion and the ‘me’ in memorable. Skydive your way to excitement. Or bake yourself towards happiness. Maybe even rent a chateau for a gateau one summer. Or simply give something a jolly good whirl because chances are it will be the making of you. You are the author of your life. Go on, give it a go!
What would you love to give a go? What’s been long in your mind to try? Or what have you done that you’ve never looked back from? Drop me a comment and let me know.

Hi john,
Thanks for the reminder this morning, to keep dreams alive (and thanks for the good mention of fairies…they do appreciate it).
Seems that my list of wishes and dreams is growing by the day. Though it sounds good, I have to keep my head on straight, or I get lost wandering around Neverland…a good place to be, but gotta make some dreams come true along the way.
I have a picture of a beautiful, simple, creative life…full of color, puppies, fresh veggies and grandchildren. Happiness abounds, and I have time, space, and energy to give goodness to the community around me. I don’t know where this will be, but I’ll find it when the time is right.
Jane hold that picture in your mind then go create! Just be sure you don’t do nothing waiting for the time to be right as you could always be waiting. If you can see it you can be it. No time like the present as they say.
So true, John. I’ve created a new epoch in my life called “author” and have never looked back. It’s been a wonderfully fulfilling challenge. The willingness to see things differently offers vast opportunities beyond what we currently see.
Rob you are the Epocher Rocker!!
I’m dusting off my desire to do art work. I ordered some colored pencils call Inktense on Amazon. My soul has been calling me to do this for the last 3 years. Yikes.
Also we’re in the process of selling our home and moving closer to the city. The theater, movies, concerts, are all an hour away. We spend too much time on the road!
Tess, good on you. You are on your way because the whole process of ordering those coloured pencils has broken the spell and awakened new possibility. Now go make it a reality and send me some pictures when that beautiful art appears. And you are certainly moving on many levels with the house move too. Great adventures await you. You are green for ‘go’!
Hi Tess,
I’m so glad you ordered the pencils! It all begins with that first step toward letting go, and honoring that voice inside…the little girl saying “I really love those colors, wonder what would happen if I just took them out and played for a while?”
Have a go, Tess, and enjoy!
Jane
Hi Jane, looking forwards to Tess’s art work when it’s ready. Asked her drop by with a sample. Glad she’s come out to play! Are you coming too?
hello john,
how are you?
i’m sure you had an interesting trip(your facebook updates indicate you had fun lol!!)
thanks for the nudge to give it a go. i believe there wouldnt be a sense of accomplishment/fulfilment if we dont take steps to fulfilling our constructive fantasies or desires.
take care and enjoy the rest of the day.
Hi Ayo, yes my trip was a real barnstormer – I had a superb time. Which nudged me as well proving how much I had got going giving things a go of late. I wouldn’t have done any of what I have in the last 12 months some 5 years ago but life won’t stop so might as well travel with it. So now I have a passport to possibility. Hope you are having a go my friend.
John,
I love the line “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”, It is so true!
Sometimes what is coming to our obstacles is ourselves, our hesitance stops us from reaching the height we can soar! You are right, what is stopping us, Go and have fun. I am going to take your advice and just do that!
Quite right too Preeti – you go have fun and let yourself go and with it your wishes and desires. If you don’t stop yourself there is nothing else stopping you. Thanks for dropping by.
I love this post John. Go have a go! Great idea. Don’t sit on the sidelines of your life, right? I needed this reminder today. Thank you!
Great stuff Angela. You are head coach of team Angela so go be a winner!
Hi John! So many good points… Where to begin? No point in hanging out in the past when we have this beautiful moment to enjoy. If we make the most of this moment, we have no time to waste in the past.
Favorite line: “Skydive your way to excitement.” I love the idea of jumping with abandon into the excitement of our lives.
I gotta go now so that I can have a go at this.
Loving blessings!
I’ll look out for your in the skies Andrea. Just let out a big ‘Yeee haaa’ and I’ll know it’s you. Time to fly in life!
